Why The American People Have A Right To Lose Faith In Government Institutions
The FBI and Justice Department have been on the forefront of breaking news in the last week and what we now properly deem “the swamp” just gets deeper the more it is exposed. On Tuesday, the New York Attorney Generals office subpoena’d Michael Cohen, former attorney to President Trump, on allegation of tax fraud. Cohen, who has been entangled in the ever growing investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, was charged with 8 counts, 5 of them being tax fraud, according to CNBC.
This is crucial because according to New York law, tax fraud is not covered under double jeopardy, and therefore can be tried on both the federal and state level. More importantly, New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood, who has been critical of President Trump in the past, is looking into opening an investigation of the Trump Foundation, through which Cohen was paid, according to The New York Times.
It was reported last week by The Federalist that the FBI did not review the vast amount of emails on Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Weiner, the disgraced former Congressman and husband to Huma Abedin, was found to have classified documents sent from Hillary Clinton’s avowed private server, the very same private server that was supposedly filled with emails concerning yoga and birthday parties. And yet, there still hasn’t been any Special Counsel investigating the email server and communications.
From Hillary and her Dossier, to Mueller and his team of Democrat lawyers, and now Barbara Underwood; it seems every political actor is out to bring down this administration.
At some point politicians have to look critically at the hypocrisy and see just why the American people are so suspicious of government institutions. In December of 2017, Pew Reported that only 18% of Americans trust the government to do what is right “about always” or “most of the time.”
Although many politicians believe it to be so, Americans are not ignorant. They can root out a scheme, lie, or phony in a second, which is why Donald Trump is in the White House and not Hillary Clinton. The American people are tired of being lied to, tired of being played for fools while the media makes mountains out of mole hills and turns a blind eye to the blatant hypocrisy.
Why should the American people care who Trump has or has not slept with? Does it bolster the economy? Increase wages? Lower tax burdens? Fix immigration laws? It seems everyone in Washington has forgotten the indecencies of past Presidents. Clinton, Kennedy, and Cleveland, to name a few, have all committed immoral sexual acts; some while President.
While the Department of Justice and FBI were once noble nonpartisan institutions, they have fallen prey to partisan activism and becoming a wing of the Democrat party along with the media. As the Mueller investigation presses on to the tune of $16.7M so far according to TIME, Americans are left wondering: when is the Special Council going to find any Russian collusion?
Or will it just be a thorn in the side of President Trump, never accomplishing its intended purpose but set out to destroy those closest to the President? From what has been disclosed thus far it seems to be the latter. And when will the FBI remedy the blatant mishandling of investigations under director James Comey? Will they continuously be grossly negligent or just extremely careless?
When the partisanship and hypocrisy are out of our nation’s institutions, Americans will once again have a reason to trust our institutions, but as of now they, have every right to lose faith in them.
