The State Of Our Nation Is At An Unparalleled Point.

“A statist is a man who believes that some men have the right to force, coerce, enslave, rob, and murder others. To be put into practice, this belief has to be implemented by the political doctrine that the government—the state—has the right to initiate the use of physical force against its citizens.”

What we see today acted out on our streets is the statist mentality, We have mobs shouting down others who have opinions different from them even resorting to violence. Just this week we read that Mark Duplass encouraged fellow liberals to follow Ben Shapiro’s work to get a sense of what conservatives believe. He tweeted:

“Fellow liberals: If you are interested at all in ‘crossing the aisle’ you should consider following @benshapiro,” Duplass tweeted. “I don’t agree with him on much but he’s a genuine person who once helped me for no other reason than to be nice. He doesn’t bend the truth. His intentions are good.”

Ben is a  conservative pundit and columnist. Duplass was immediately attacked on social media by his fellow liberals to an extent that he pulled his tweet and issued an apology.

Talk of global warming or climate change and those who disagree with the theory are called “deniers.”  Mark Hertsgaard argued in a Sept. 7 article in the Nation that climate change denial is a crime and deniers should be punished

It has gotten to the point that dinner conversation is stilted for fear that guests will become unhinged and start shouting. You don’t dare speak of who you voted for in the last election.

We have reached a point where some believe it is okay to coerce and intimidate those whose views differ from the mob. The cry of Nazi and Fascist ring out and politicians are intimidated with their families in restaurants. We have become intolerant of others’ opinions.

To me, our intolerance is signaling the U.S. is on a short road to authoritarianism. We are close to the point where the pavement runs out, and our wheels fall off with the government holding all power.
