As the majority of Americans are unhappy with President Trump, voters look to change over the House with a House majority for Democrats in the November midterm elections. Although President Trump has had his approval rating increased to 47% as of April 6th, close-mindedness and attacks against the GOP have Democrats roaring for a ‘blue wave’ come November.
However, new studies suggest otherwise as Republicans seem to be closing the gap. According to a Fox News report that has been an ongoing project since October, Democrats had a 15 point lead against Republicans in October (50-35). Now, it’s narrowed down to 5 points (46-41).
A Quinnipiac poll released on March 5th had Democrats with a 10 point lead (48-38). Now, that lead has been split in half to a 6 point lead in a March 20 follow up (49-43).
Fox News reported, “Republicans passed a new federal tax law last December, and the poll marks the first time President Trump receives a positive job rating on taxes: 48 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove. In October, it was 37-51 percent.”
Now, the real question is: should Democrats be worried? The simple answer: yes.
Ever since ‘March for our Lives’ began, their goal of banning ‘assault rifles’, ‘accessories that make semi automatic rifles fully automatic (that’s not how it works), and possibly repealing the 2nd Amendment has backfired amongst themselves.
A gun store has seen thier sales spike 33% in a variety of firearms, including AR-15s. “Background checks in March were up over 10% from the same month last year which totaled 1,503,967. Handgun checks increased 3.9%, while long guns saw an increase of 17.3%”, according to an FBI statistic report.
The ‘National Instant Criminal Background Check System’ ran a record 2,767,699 checks for firearms purchases this past March, the most since the bureau began keeping records in 1998.
As Bloomberg pointed out, ‘the new record highs in background checks sent shares of some publicly traded firearms companies higher on Tuesday.’ Shares of ‘Sportsman’s Warehouse’ were up 10% and Vista Outdoor saw green after their numbers came out of a 4% profiting increase.
The Fox News report/poll was conducted with 1,012 registered voters across the nation. It has a 3% margin for error.
